I am a Textile Designer working from Kindred Studios (a Makers’ collective) in London. I design and make hand embroidered and handwoven textiles. My range of hand crafted interior products include cushions, quilts, screens/space dividers and textile wall art.
My work is informed by observing the natural world, constantly changing, yet still. My tapestries seek to bring the “outside” in, evoking the simple pleasures of a woodland walk, changing seasons or just inspirations from nature around me. I have a raw, experimental approach in my constructed textiles where I knot, wrap and loop yarns juxtaposing them with found materials like paper, fabric, plastic, metal and precious nature finds like leaves, bark, seed pods, grass and flowers. In my embroidery I explore simple stitches and hand applique to bring forms of birds and human faces to life.
I trained at the National Institute of Design in India where my journey into Textiles began. My first collection of modern textiles woven by a traditional weaving community was exhibited at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai. I have successfully executed multiple commissions with top architects and Interior designers in India creating large scale nature inspired space enhancers for private clients including hotels, residences shops and offices.
Since moving to London in 2006 I studied Technical hand embroidery at Royal School of Needlework. Thrilled to be back to work full time after a break to be with the kids. I’m currently exploring ‘hands’ as a motif in my weaves from my West London studio.
